When you buy kratom, it is almost always in dry powder form. Even if you use other forms of kratom such as crushed leaf powder, this is also a dry product that will help prevent kratom from growing mold or otherwise going bad.

Since kratom is a dry good and doesn’t contain any moisture, it is very unlikely to grow mold. It can however lose some strength overtime if you let it sit.

Does Kratom Go Bad: Proper Storage

Kratom is a plant matter like any other organic matter, and thus it can decay or degrade over time, even though it is a dry powder.

Typically, kratom from popular vendors does not come with an expiration date. It’s still important to take care of your kratom and store it properly especially if you purchased a large amount.

Kratom will generally last 2-3 months in proper storage.

Once kratom reaches the 2-3 month range, it will begin to decay from it’s peak of strength. It may not rot or grow mold, but it will decay from it’s strength.

If you consume kratom past the 2-3 month range, it may still be acceptable in terms of quality but won’t be as strong as fresher kratom. Never consume kratom that is significantly past the 2-3 month range, you risk consuming potentially risky mold or decayed kratom that can make you sick.

Best Way to Store Kratom

Kratom from vendors usually comes in a bag with an air-tight seal that you can reseal easily. It’s important to always reseal your bag of kratom once you are done using it. Exposure to air particles and oxygen can cause kratom to decay faster.

Even though you can reseal your original kratom package, we recommend using additional storage such as an air-tight tupperware or outer bag to really protect your kratom from fresh air exchange. Always reseal properly to keep your kratom safe.

Additionally, always keep other substances out of your kratom bag. If you accidentally spill water or another liquid on your kratom, you risk exposure to potential mold growing or faster decay. Always prepare your kratom consumption carefully and slowly so you don’t contaminate it.

If you choose to cook your kratom in the form of tea or cook it into a further extract with other ingredients, your expiration time or risk of exposure to other particles can increase.

Cooking kratom tea is an effective and popular method of consumption. Make sure to store the tea in the fridge and consume within a few days. See our kratom tea guide here.

Vendor Quality

Buying kratom from low quality or unknown vendors also increases your risk of buying kratom that is already near expiration or has been exposed to other substances. Cheap kratom is cheap for a reason, because it’s lower quality. Always purchase kratom from high quality, reputable vendors so that you can store your kratom for longer periods without quality concerns.

Additionally, avoid buying cheap kratom that has been modified such as enhanced or otherwise modified. This form of kratom can expire or cause other issues if you don’t trust the vendor.

Here’s an example of a popular, reliable vendor: https://krakenkratom.com/

The price of kratom varies widely across many websites and stores. It also varies between buying online and buying it in-person. Furthermore, there are many different forms of kratom now that all cost a little more than the normal price. We’re here to breakdown the different price points that matter to a kratom buyer.

Typical Cost of Kratom Powder

For our examples below, we are using powdered kratom as the baseline product for pricing. This is the most commonly purchased form of kratom, so it makes sense to share the prices accordingly.

Online Kratom Shopping

Kratom is sold in a few different sizes. Typically, it is sold in quantities of 1-16 ounces. 1 ounce is the often the smallest order that you can place with a kratom vendor.

Evaluating a few major kratom vendors, we determined a typical number for the price of kratom online here:

1 ounce (28 grams) of kratom will cost about $8. The price per gram will go down as you increase your order size, all the way up to 16 ounces, or 1 pound. Some kratom vendors will drop the price per gram of kratom by about 10-25% if you are ordering 16 ounces.

This equates to the cost of kratom being about $0.25 per gram while shopping online. If the average kratom user doses between 2-5 grams, then the average kratom dose costs about $0.50-1.50. This makes kratom a relatively cheap supplement to consume for typical, occasional users.

Lastly, always look at a few different big kratom vendors to compare prices. You can find kratom on-sale easily, or you can find certain deals with special discount codes.

Don’t buy the cheapest kratom you can find. Chances are, the very cheap kratom you may find is low quality and potentially filled with fake ingredients to add weight to it. Stick to the price guide above and try to pay about $0.25-0.30 per gram of kratom.

Buying Kratom In-Store

In our experience when we’ve visited storefronts that sell kratom, the price is almost always higher than online. In-store, kratom will cost about 50-100% more than when bought online. This represents a significant markup. While many people still prefer the convenience to shopping for kratom at a local store even with the price increase.

Furthermore, many brands of kratom sold in brick-and-mortar stores are not well-known and have no information online about them. This also leads to quality issues. It’s very hard to determine kratom quality when buying a random brand in a store.

For these reasons, we always recommend purchasing kratom online for 1) the price is cheaper and 2) the vendor quality online is more reliable.

Cost of Kratom: Other Forms of Kratom

As you may know by now, kratom comes in a few different recognizable forms. The different forms of kratom can include:

Powdered kratom in capsules

Enhanced kratom

Crushed leaf kratom

All of these forms of kratom are different to powdered kratom. Kratom products that have been modified such as enhanced kratom or kratom capsules will cost more per gram than regular powder kratom. This is important to remember, because many people will buy capsule kratom because it’s easier to take without realizing they are paying a premium for this product.

Kratom sold in capsules will cost about 10-25% more than kratom powder.

Enhanced kratom will cost about 15-30% more than kratom powder.

When considering the cost of kratom versus other forms, it can be more cost-efficient to simply buy your own kratom powder and turn it into a different form that you prefer. You can always buy your own kratom and your own gel-based capsules and make your own capsuled kratom at home.

You can also make kratom tea with kratom powder! We made a blog on the best kratom tea here.

(Find gel-caps to fill with kratom on Amazon here)

Additionally, there are more reasons to simply buy kratom powder instead of directly buying kratom in capsules or the enhanced version. These products have variability in quality because the vendor is modifying the powder in some way. You don’t want variability in the quantity or source of your kratom!

We did a breakdown on the different forms of kratom in our blog post here!

Conclusion

Kratom can be priced differently across different online vendors and even across different stores. There so many ways to purchase kratom, but the best option is really to source from a big, highly-rated vendor and purchase kratom powder only.

There are cost-inefficient ways to purchase kratom such as buying it pre-packaged into capsules or buying it in ‘enhanced form’. These pose different risks in terms of cost and quality, so stick to simply buying kratom powder.

Always check different websites for deals and discounts, but don’t tread too deep. Buying very cheap kratom is also a bad idea!

As always, shop safely and only buy from trusted vendors!

Back to kratomwonder.com home!
