Does Kratom Go Bad? Complete Review

Crushed Leaf Kratom

When you buy kratom, it is almost always in dry powder form. Even if you use other forms of kratom such as crushed leaf powder, this is also a dry product that will help prevent kratom from growing mold or otherwise going bad.

Since kratom is a dry good and doesn’t contain any moisture, it is very unlikely to grow mold. It can however lose some strength overtime if you let it sit.

Does Kratom Go Bad: Proper Storage

Kratom is a plant matter like any other organic matter, and thus it can decay or degrade over time, even though it is a dry powder.

Typically, kratom from popular vendors does not come with an expiration date. It’s still important to take care of your kratom and store it properly especially if you purchased a large amount.

Kratom will generally last 2-3 months in proper storage.

Once kratom reaches the 2-3 month range, it will begin to decay from it’s peak of strength. It may not rot or grow mold, but it will decay from it’s strength.

If you consume kratom past the 2-3 month range, it may still be acceptable in terms of quality but won’t be as strong as fresher kratom. Never consume kratom that is significantly past the 2-3 month range, you risk consuming potentially risky mold or decayed kratom that can make you sick.

Best Way to Store Kratom

Kratom from vendors usually comes in a bag with an air-tight seal that you can reseal easily. It’s important to always reseal your bag of kratom once you are done using it. Exposure to air particles and oxygen can cause kratom to decay faster.

Even though you can reseal your original kratom package, we recommend using additional storage such as an air-tight tupperware or outer bag to really protect your kratom from fresh air exchange. Always reseal properly to keep your kratom safe.

Additionally, always keep other substances out of your kratom bag. If you accidentally spill water or another liquid on your kratom, you risk exposure to potential mold growing or faster decay. Always prepare your kratom consumption carefully and slowly so you don’t contaminate it.

If you choose to cook your kratom in the form of tea or cook it into a further extract with other ingredients, your expiration time or risk of exposure to other particles can increase.

Cooking kratom tea is an effective and popular method of consumption. Make sure to store the tea in the fridge and consume within a few days. See our kratom tea guide here.

Vendor Quality

Buying kratom from low quality or unknown vendors also increases your risk of buying kratom that is already near expiration or has been exposed to other substances. Cheap kratom is cheap for a reason, because it’s lower quality. Always purchase kratom from high quality, reputable vendors so that you can store your kratom for longer periods without quality concerns.

Additionally, avoid buying cheap kratom that has been modified such as enhanced or otherwise modified. This form of kratom can expire or cause other issues if you don’t trust the vendor.
