Kratom tinctures are becoming a popular product across the internet. You can find kratom shots on many vendor websites and even in stores that sell kratom products. They can be more expensive than kratom powder by volume, but they pack a strong punch in strength. So, what are kratom tinctures?
Note: Tinctures are also known as kratom shots.
In this article, we will break down where you can find kratom tinctures, what’s inside them, and if they’re worth it.
What are kratom tinctures made of?
Kratom tinctures are small bottles that contain a mix of water, vegetable glycerin, and mitragynine. Kratom tinctures represent a type of kratom extract. Vendors incorporate kratom extract into a standard liquid and then bottle it.
Mitragynine is the active alkaloid in kratom tinctures that gives their effect. Mitragynine is extracted from the kratom plant from a variety of methods, and then the mitragynine is added to the mixture to create the drink-able tincture.
The amount of mitragynine in kratom tinctures will vary by vendor/seller. If you buy from a respectable vendor, you should get a standardized amount of active kratom alkaloids per bottle.
From many vendors, you can find kratom tinctures will contain a standard amount of the active alkaloid, mitragynine. After sampling a few popular vendors, we can see that a common number is 128mg of mitraygnine per kratom tincture.
Usually, kratom tinctures come with multiple servings per bottle. The bottle will typically contain 3 servings.
In general, kratom tinctures contain a high amount of mitragynine, especially for new kratom users. We recommend tinctures almost exclusively for experienced users of kratom. This is because kratom extracts are strong and can make a new user sick or uncomfortable with their strength.
Secondly, since kratom tinctures contain only mitragynine as their active compound, users don’t get the full spectrum of effects. So, if you’re someone who prefers to get all of the active alkaloids in their kratom, we don’t recommend tinctures.
There are other active alkaloids in kratom that you will get when you consume other extracts or pure kratom powder. One of these is 7-hydroximitragynine. This alkaloid is often not present in kratom tinctures, so you do miss this aspect.
Where to buy kratom tinctures?
You can buy kratom tinctures in a variety of locations. Most commonly, kratom tinctures are for sale on vendor websites.
Kratom shots are a product that require a lot of production and energy to create. As explained above, kratom tinctures are made with kratom extract. Extracting kratom on an industrial scale and then adding it to mixtures to be bottled requires intensive knowledge and manufacturing.
You can find a selection of kratom tinctures on Kraken Kratom here. (We do not make money from this link)
Note: Tinctures are also known as kratom shots.
Because of this, the vendors that are able to complete this on the largest scale will have the lowest prices and generally highest quality. Thus, the best prices on kratom tinctures will also be on popular vendor websites.
If you’re familiar with buying kratom online, then chances are your usual kratom vendor will already have shots/bottles on their site for-sale. We recommend shopping with kratom vendors that you’re comfortable with and have already done business with.
If you are new to buying kratom products online, then we recommend using Google to find a popular kratom vendor. Always try to buy kratom and other kratom extract products from vendors with a high reputation. This is how you get quality products at good prices.
Buying kratom tinctures at stores
Kratom shots are also sold at many stores you can find. Even places like convenience stores or head shops will sell kratom tinctures, depending on your location.
We don’t recommend buying kratom tinctures directly from stores. There are a few reasons for this:
Often times, kratom shots/tinctures at store aren’t name brand kratom products like the ones you find on vendor websites. Typically, the kratom tinctures you can find at the store are have no results on Google when you look them up. This is a bad sign for a kratom extract product.
Kratom tinctures you can buy at the store are often made cheaply, with unknown ingredients and no guarantee of mitragynine or active alkaloid content. They also may contain sketchy ingredients that aren’t even listed on the label.
Kratom shots/tinctures at the store are also very expensive, because of the convenience of buying it on-the-go.
Again, we recommend sticking to online vendors for their kratom products instead of trying to buy any kratom products at the store. It is both a safety risk and a risk for your money! Stick to good vendors when trying tinctures.
Which kratom tincture should I buy?
You may be looking at a wide selection of kratom tinctures online and it can get overwhelming. In general, if you are on a good vendor website, then you can’t go wrong with your choice.
Look at the vendor descriptions for the tinctures you’re interested in buying. Do this to familiarize yourself with how strong the product will be.
We recommend you try buying tinctures that have names you are familiar with, such as a green vein tincture or an ultra enhanced indo tincture.
P.S. We wrote a whole article on Ultra Enhanced Indo kratom here.
How are kratom extracts made?
As we explained above, kratom tinctures/shots are a blend of water, vegetable glycerin, and alkaloid extracts.
But, what is the process that makes the kratom extract for the tinctures? At the industrial scale, this may look different. But, the kratom extraction process is as follows:
Typically, a solvent such as alcohol is added to kratom powder. Then, the mixture is left to combine fully. Once it is fully combined, heat is applied to the mixture which separates the active alkaloids such as mitragynine into the solvent. Then, the mixture is strained and you’re left with a liquid solvent that contains all the alkaloids from the kratom.
The active alkaloids then get added to the water/vegetable glycerin mixture and then it is put into bottles for consumers.
Assuming the manufacturing process is high quality, kratom tinctures represent a pure product with very few unnecessary ingredients. All the ingredients are quite safe, and the extraction process can remove a lot of the unnecessary parts of kratom powder that you don’t need to consume.
This is why kratom tinctures/shots can be expensive, because the manufacturing process is very intensive.
Are kratom tinctures worth it?
After reading the above explanation, you may be considering trying kratom tinctures for your next purchase. Most people never deviate from kratom powder, and that’s understandable. Unmodified kratom powder can be the best option for many people who enjoy it.
In general, kratom tinctures are more expensive by volume normal kratom powder. You can expect to pay about $10-15 per kratom tincture that contains 3 servings. Remember, these 3 servings contain a high amount of the active alkaloids in kratom. At about $3-$5 per strong serving, this is a relatively expensive way to consume kratom products.
It is possible to find cheaper kratom shots across the internet and in stores. But, there are a few major issues with this idea. Cheap kratom products will generally be made in very cheap, mass-manufacturing facilities. There will be very little quality control with these cheap products, and you also risk the quality. You will end up simply consuming more of the tincture because of how weak it is!
For these reasons, we really recommend you attempt to buy tinctures from vendors that have good reputations in the community of extract users!
If the cost of kratom tinctures is no concern to you, then we say go for it. You will find kratom tinctures to be highly convenient instead of powder. All you need is to bring the bottle with you, and you’re good to go!
Another popular kratom extract type is enhanced kratom. We have an article here on enhanced kratom.
Tincture dependency issues
Because of how easy it is to simply drink kratom tinctures, they do represent a dependence issue. Normally, with kratom powder, some preparation is required which adds a barrier to taking kratom powder too often.
With kratom tinctures, there is no preparation or otherwise any steps needed to consume it. All you have to do is take the lid off and pour your serving. For this reason, it’s easy to compulsively or overconsume these products.
We recommend exercising higher caution when using extracts in general, and especially kratom tinctures. It’s very easy to lose control with strong extracts such as tinctures.
Conclusion
Overall, if you want to buy kratom tinctures, we recommend trying it! Just follow our tips carefully.
The key points to remember are to always buy kratom and kratom extract products from good vendors that you already have experience with. Secondly, don’t try to buy cheap kratom tinctures or products. They represent a health hazard and they aren’t worth the money even when cheap!
If it doesn’t have an ingredients label, leave it alone.
Lastly, exercise caution when consuming kratom tinctures. They do represent a product that can cause a dependency issue. It can are very easy to dose repeatedly, and so this can be a problem for many users. Tinctures are, however, very convenient for those that know how to use them properly and safely!
