Ingredients List For Brewing Strong Kratom

  • A medium-sized pot
  • A strainer such as a metal or plastic coffee/tea strainer (like this one on Amazon!)
  • 2.0 to 6.0 grams of Kratom powder
  • Approximately 1-2 tablespoons of an acidic ingredient. Best to use lime or lemon juice, fresh or concentrate.
  • 3-4 cups of tap water or filtered water

Step 1 – Preparing your Kratom Powder

Take a standard medium pot from your kitchen (avoid using a tea kettle for this). Don’t add any water yet!

Add your kratom powder to the pot. Next, take your acidic ingredient, such as lime or lemon juice, and pour it over the powder. You’ll want to use enough lime or lemon juice to soak the powder and wet it completely. For each 3 grams of kratom, try to use about 1 tablespoon of lemon or lime juice.

Stir the kratom powder around in the lemon or lime juice so that it’s fully mixed and your kratom powder is damp almost like mud. Leave this mixture in the pot for at least 10-15 minutes with no heat or water added yet.

The reason to add lemon or lime juice is that acidity binds with the active ingredients in kratom, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, and protects them from the high temperatures. Always add an acidic ingredient! It protects the active ingredients from being destroyed.

Step 2 – Finishing the Mixture

Once you’ve waited for the lemon or lime juice to fully bind with the kratom, now you can add your water. The amount of water to add depends on how much volume of tea you want.

For 2.0-6.0 grams of kratom, use about 3-4 cups of water for a normal volume.

Add the water and stir the mixture around completely. Now, your combination of ingredients is complete.

Step 3 – Brewing the Tea

Now that all of your ingredients are combined, place the pot on the stove and turn it to a medium heat. Keep the heat on medium until your tea start boiling gently, and keep stirring the mixture and transferring the heat around the liquid.

Keep the tea at a light-to-medium boil for about 5 minutes, not a strong boil. If you heat the tea up too much and it’s boiling heavily, you risk destroying the active ingredients in the kratom. It also can develop a burnt taste, which is very bitter and gross!

Once the 5-6 minutes has passed, bring the heat back down to low for about 5-10 minutes.

At this temperature, the tea should still be lightly bubbling but not full-on boiling. Keep a close eye on your tea through this so you can watch the temperature closely and also keep stirring it often! We don’t recommend walking away from the tea, because it’s best to remain nearby to stir and monitor the brewing process.

Step 4 – Cooling down the Tea

At this point, you can take the mixture off the heat and stir it as it cools down a little bit more.

Here is another key step in the brewing process. Now that the heat is off and the tea is cooling, you need to let the tea sit and cool down completely, and only stir occasionally for another 20-30 minutes. Let it cool and sit in the pot mostly undisturbed. I know you’re eager to drink the tea! But this settling process is very important for the transfer of active ingredients to the water and acid mixture.

In fact, the longer you wait the better. The transfer process from the active ingredients to the water takes place during this cool-down process.

Step 5 – Finishing the Brew

Once you’ve completed the cooling step, you can take the pot and pour the tea through your strainer into a cup or a jar/flask to store or drink the tea.

Using a strainer like a coffee strainer is best because it will catch all of the powder from getting into your cup. If you don’t strain the powder properly, you may end up with a silt at the bottom of your tea and this can be unpleasant and taste bitter.

Now, you can add any desired extra ingredients. Some people can enjoy their tea just plain, as the lemon/lime juice adds some flavor to balance out the bitterness. You can also add sugar to make the tea more palatable, or a low-calorie sweetener. This does help the tea taste much better. You can also add ice if you like!

Now, your tea is complete and ready to drink. Enjoy!
