Many people simply buy their kratom powder or other products online or in a store – but one alternative is to grow kratom. It can be a relatively difficult process if you don’t have prior gardening experience. If you do have garden experience, growing kratom can be just like growing any other plant. You may now be wondering, how can I buy a kratom plant?
Attempting to acquire an already-growing kratom plant or seeds or cuttings can be a little hard – but not impossible. In this article, we will cover a few different ways you can go about acquiring a kratom plant. We will also cover some high-level kratom growing methods.
How to buy a kratom plant
Getting a kratom plant can be done in a few different ways. There are 2 main ways we recommend going about this, unless you have a special connection to a gardener that has access to kratom plants already growing. Assuming you are starting from scratch, you will need to use vendors on certain websites to go about this process.
Buying a kratom seed
Buying the seed of the kratom plant is not the same as simply buying the seed of another type of plant. With many plants, you can simply find the seed at the store or online and buy it. Then, you can bring it home and plant it normally.
Kratom seeds are actually very delicate seeds. Kratom seeds come from fully grown kratom trees, and they fall off the tree when the tree is mature. They grow in seed pods. In nature, the seed pod will fall from the tree and break into many pieces. Then, the kratom seeds will naturally blow around in the wind or fall amongst the grass, regrowing another plant/tree.
Kratom seed pods hold dozens of individual kratom seeds. Individual kratom seeds are not always successful in germinating and successfully growing into a plant. This is why the kratom tree grows so many, because the success rate of individual seeds is low.

For these reasons, if you purchase or otherwise get your hands on an individual kratom seed, the chances of it growing into a plant are low. You will want a high volume of seeds to increase your odds of successfully growing a kratom plant.
Why kratom seed pods are expensive
You will need to purchase a whole kratom seed pod to get a better chance of some of the seeds being successful in germination. As we said above, kratom seed pods in their whole form are still very fragile. This makes them hard to transport around the world from places where kratom grows.
As a quick reminder, kratom grows primarily in Southeast Asia. Countries like Indonesia and Thailand export kratom to places like the United States. These countries are where almost all kratom grows from. Because of this, you will be getting any sort of kratom seeds from a person or group that transported these seeds from Southeast Asia.
As mentioned above, kratom seed pods will almost certainly come from Southeast Asia where the kratom plant grows abundantly. Because the seed pods are so fragile and have such a long journey of handling from Southeast Asia, they can be hard to come by. If you do find kratom seed pods in-stock, they will also be expensive, but it can be worth it.
Your best bet on finding kratom seed pods available for sale is to Google for them online until you find a reputable site. This may take some time and research.

Buying kratom plant cuttings
Your second option for growing a kratom plant at home is to buy the cuttings of a kratom plant.
Cuttings are small parts of the kratom plant that are cut off and can be replanted in the ground to regrow an entire plant. Using cuttings to grow plants from existing plants is a common practice in the world of gardening and horticulture. This works for many plants across nature.
Kratom plant cuttings will usually be a small brand of the kratom tree such as a stem with leaf or a rooted arm of the kratom plant.
The general idea is that you take a fresh cutting and plant it into the ground root-side down. If you are fortunate, the cutting will start growing a whole new plant slowly. This can take a long time for the plant to start regrowing, and you will need proper conditions such as strong nutritional soil and proper water content.

Kratom plant cuttings can be more commonly available online than kratom seed pods. Cuttings are also much easier to get from someone who already has kratom plants growing themselves. Again, kratom seed pods come from fully grown kratom trees but kratom plant cuttings can come from younger plants.
So, if you know someone or are able to get in touch with someone who has growing kratom plants already, they can cut and produce a cutting for you to grow a kratom plant.
Additional tips
As we shared above, buying kratom seed pods can be scarce on the internet but it is possible. We recommend first attempting to buy kratom seed pods from a highly rated or well known website. If this does not work, then you can go ahead and try to find kratom plant cuttings online or on a local market.
There is a small chance that someone in your area has kratom plant cuttings available for you to buy, so make sure to try this avenue.
As always, check the legality of the kratom plant in your state or country. In some places, kratom is illegal, and so growing the plant may be illegal too.
Tips on growing a kratom plant

One helpful note is that kratom plants grow quite easily. They grow much like any other plant, as long as you can closely replicate the growing conditions that they have in Southeast Asia.
The growing conditions of kratom trees in Southeast Asia is a wet, humid environment. If you live somewhere that is humid and hot year-round like Florida, USA, or a place that has hot and humid summers, then you can grow a kratom plant outside.
Kratom plants do require good quality soil like most plants, but they don’t require anything too special.
As we mentioned in the introduction, kratom plants can be grown by anyone with some basic gardening skills. If you don’t have any prior gardening skills and want to grow a kratom plant outside, we recommend trying to grow other basic plants such as fruit or vegetables first.
Another important component is drying your kratom plant once you harvest it. Most people will prefer to turn their personal kratom plants into kratom powder so that they can consume it just like normal. To do this, you will want to dry you kratom plant in either a food dehydrator or in the sun. Make sure you dry your kratom plant immediately after harvest to avoid mold problems.
